Bring or don’t bring?: BRING

If you’re living out of a backpack for a few years while you trek across Asia, you have to give some things up.

One of the luxuries of the modern world you’re going to probably have to sacrifice for a great part of that will be bath-sized fluffy towels from the dryer.

But hey, here’s the next best thing. A towel that dries you even when it’s wet.

And it comes in a little zipper pouch!

MSR Dromlite Water ReservoirMSR Dromlite Hydration Bladder

Bring or don’t bring?: BRING

This is something you might not think of to bring, but can come in pretty handy.

One big thing every backpacker needs to remember while they are in Asia is to stay hydrated.

If you like to go for long day hikes, be sure to bring one along.

Even if you just want to pump some water for the road and don’t want to have to wrestle with an unwieldy plastic water bottle, this water reservoir will be your friend.

Platypus Sport BottlePlatypus Sport Bottle

Bring or don’t bring?: BRING

The Platypus is an excellent addition to any backpacker’s pack and every traveler’s pocket. In fact, we should have brought two.

It’s portable enough to slip into a cargo pocket even when it’s carrying its full of a liter of water, or can easily fit into a daypack.

When you finish your water, simply roll it up and stash it back in your pocket or in your pack.

It’s worth bringing one for each person.

Eagle Creek Leg StashEagle Creek Travel Gear Leg Stash

Bring or don’t bring?: BRING

When you travel, it’s a good practice to keep your valuables hidden, close to your body, and separate from your primary cash stash.

This leg stash helps you accomplish all of those things and is even roomy enough to put a couple of passports and credit cards in to boot.

It’s comfortable enough to wear in transit, and easy enough to store discreetly somewhere in your hotel room once you arrive at your destination.

Gerber ViseGerber Vise

Bring or don’t bring?: BRING

What guy can’t live without his tools?

On a backpacking trip of course, all gear must be miniature and multi-purpose. Fortunately, that’s exactly what the Gerber Vise is.

From fixing a broken shoelace to popping open a bottle of bubbly, this tool will see you from sea to shining sea across Asia and keep you ready for just about everything.

Except for maybe a can of soup. But you didn’t come to Asia to eat canned soup, did you?

Not just for wannabe gangstas anymore, the DesignGo Wallet with Chain is a good complement to the Leg Stash featured above.

This small wallet with a chain that clips easily to a belt-loop is another good way for a smart backpacker to guard the ever-precious cash flow from would-be thieves and pickpockets.

It’s got velcro to close it tight and a zippered pocket on the outside to keep your loose change.
