REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt
Review written by: G
I thought bringing a long-sleeve shirt would be essential to back- packing in Asia (thinking I would NEVER be wearing short-sleeved shirts, despite the fact that that’s pretty much all I wear back home), mostly because of mos- quitoes.
So, like an idiot for the first two weeks or so in India (in August, thank you very much), I sweated my rear end off in my long pants and this long-sleeve shirt.
Finally, I figured out that a) this wasn’t necessary and b) this shirt wasn’t performing in the way I thought it would.
I wasn’t being swarmed by mos- quitoes, for one, and I was hot. Really hot.
I’d looked for something lightweight, moisture-wicking blah blah to wear as arm coverings without making me roast. This didn’t fit the bill. At all.
What I ended up doing was taking Ray’s nice white dress shirt that he’d worn over on the plane ride and cutting off the stiff collar and cuffs. That material ended up being perfect. It was loose, lightweight, and kept the mosquitoes off my arms whenever I needed to wear it.
Too bad I’d already blown so much money on a high-performance shirt that I didn’t need. And if you ask me, one that didn’t perform. So it got a free ride in the first package home.
Bring or don’t bring: DON’T bring
