Coming soon!

February 22, 2010 Post written by: Ray and G

Hi all! We are SOOO sorry for going AWOL on you again; still working out the kinks on balancing trip + updates. Wanted to let you know what’s in the works though that you can look forward to soon:

Mumbai and exploring some of historical former Bombay

frolicking on the incredible beaches of Goa and running into trouble with the law for the first time

the beautiful palm-fringed Alleppey – Kollam backwaters cruise

a wonderful and unforgettable Kollam island/village canoe trip

Madurai and the amazing Sri Meenakshi temples

Trichy and elephant blessings (really!) at Tanjore

Country #3: Sri Lanka!

the wonderful old couple who “hosted” us in Kandy, the sapling from the Buddha’s bodhi tree in Anuradhapura, the ruins of Polonnaruwa, and a wild goose hunt for The Little Prince in Sinhalese and an unusually fun time with a rickshaw driver Colombo

stories from our unexpected second home in utterly unique Varanasi (you got a little taste of that one already but there’s more!)

Bandhavgarh National Park for a wild tiger safari (or 3) and meeting some GREAT travel friends

Khajuraho and the FANTASTIC erotic temples and other fun stuff with said travel friends

Agra for a second visit and a goodbye to the Taj Mahal (still with said travel friends)

Delhi for some last minute India stuff and the final departure from this strange and wonderful land

Arrival in Country #4 ,Singapore and… well I don’t think I’ll EVER refer to a place as “civilization” again! (see the controversy here) But a great change of pace, anyway – plus the incredible zoo, night safari, Chinese New Year, dragon and lion dances and more…

And finally, arrival in Country #5 (!!), Thailand (!!!!), and some crazy stories and first-time experiences (first TweetUp, lady-boys, red light districts, crazy weird food – if anyone wants to dare Ray to eat a scorpion on a stick, this is your chance!, etc…) comin atcha from Bangkok (and more, by the time we get there).

Yes, THAT much has happened since our last proper update. Thank you for your patience, and we promise we’ll get you updated again soon. In the meantime, please to be noticing we are and will be updating our Twitter a LOT more, thanks to our stopover in Singapore. So if you crave current news too, that’s where you can find it to the minute! (FINALLY, I see a point to Twitter!) We’re also doing pretty good about keeping the “Where are G and Ray Right Now” feature up to date.

Baby steps! Hope all is well wherever you are. Please drop us a line – we always read it immediately! :)

Best,

G and Ray

  1. did you get a smartphone in singapore? i’m almost certain i’m going to end up bringing one on my trip because otherwise i’d find it so hard to be away from twitter for so long!

though i’m sure it’s a good idea to unplug every now and then. thanks for the update!

  2. Hey Adam! Yes and no… we got it for data use only because we wanted to be able to at least interact with the site somehow even if we can’t (or won’t ;)) find the time to write proper updates. Plus we were able to get a reasonably cheap unlimited internet data plan that allows us to not only access internet on the phone but on both of our computers at the same time. The ability to use the computers in the room already has been totally awesome.

We’d held off on getting something like this because we didn’t want to take away from the trip by being on the internet more than we would be otherwise. But since now we can take care of internet stuff at times we’re at home relaxing after a long day sight-seeing or whatnot anyway instead of having to take the time to go out of the way to find a place and use it during their opening hours, this is much better (and more comfortable/thus productive).

I still definitely recommend being unplugged as much as possible on a trip, and I’m glad we tried it the other way for six months first. Now we know how to use it in ways that will enhance the trip, not detract from it, and will be able to better tell the difference when that’s true and when we’re just being the compulsive checkers the digital age has raised. :)

  3. Okay………….I want a photo of Ray eating that Scorpion on a stick!

  4. Ha! Hey now… What about G??? Lol.

Boy, everybody wants me to eat one of those little guys should I be concerned for some more dares? Thanks Andrew and Sjoerd :-P

  5. You could make it dinner for two! :)
