THE SITE IS FINALLY UP!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!

So we’re up to our eyeballs in boxes, getting stuck with needles left and right, counting down the days to Harry Potter I mean the last day of our jobs, and tying up the loose ends of life here so we can cut the ribbon on life There. From now on we’ll be keeping a blog on here – the prep has been as madcap as the trip is going to be so there is plenty to write about!

We have high hopes for this site as we sink or swim our way through this 20-country, 2½ -3 year foray into the unknown and completely bizarre. We want this bad boy to be big and to involve as many people in it as we can – check out the Join Us page to see what we’ve got cookin! We want to do all we can to take this experience to the top. We want to make it to the presses and the airwaves! We want to make it to schoolrooms across America. We want to make it to OPRAH!

Our aim is simple: have the most incredible, life-altering time possible in some of the most incredible places on Earth, and then make it matter. We don’t speak the languages – though we’ll try; we’re going to be completely lost and out of place and pathetic every minute of every day – but how cool is that; our stomachs are already shaking in their boots – but we’re gonna eat the local awesomeness and just try not to die; we think other cultures can be weird sometimes – but we’re going to try to pry our minds open with the crowbar of experience and get over that.

We’re no different than you – these things are big and scary to us too! But we have a suspicion that by putting ourselves out there for the slaughter and letting you watch (hopefully cheering us on, but hey we appreciate a person slipping on a banana peel as much as the next person), together we can create something greater than just a nice scrapbook at the end. We want to put ourselves out there, exposed and open and willing, live it up to the extreme – and see what can happen when there is a voice to share a story, and an audience to hear it and respond. Sure, of course we’ve seen that before – we’ve watched TV, read magazines, newspapers. But that’s just it! We’ve always been just the audience, the observers. And as such, all the stories we’ve watched, heard, and read as observers have moved us to here.
